Michael J. Heard, MD
Medical Director

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Michael Heard serves as the Medical Director for Special Creations. He maintains a special interest in third party reproduction with egg donation beginning with interest and experience he gained in training and clinical practice. Dr. Heard has been involved in all aspects of treatments as a previous director of an egg donor agency with evaluation and monitoring of donors in his private practice. He has also gained insight into the important legal aspects that surround third party reproduction by working closely with attorneys in the local area that specialize in reproductive contracts and agreements. A successful egg donor cycle requires knowledge and experience from all aspects of the process from initial recruitment of the donor through careful evaluation and treatment of the recipient leading to the embryo transfer that results in a healthy ongoing pregnancy. Dr. Heard has seen patients that travel from around the country to be treated for donor egg in vitro fertilization and third party reproduction.

Dr. Heard is a native of Atlanta and graduated medical school from Emory University School of Medicine in 1991. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Tennessee in Memphis from 1991 to 1995 and went on to do four years of general practice in the U.S. Air Force before coming to Houston in 1999 to complete a three year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine. He maintains updated board certification in OB/GYN since 1997.

Besides infertility treatment and third party reproduction with in-vitro fertilization, Dr. Heard evaluates other endocrine disorders, including a special focus on premature ovarian failure and pediatric/adolescent gynecology. He performs advanced reproductive procedures, including fertility surgery, and conservative treatments for uterine fibroids.

Dr. Heard maintains an academic appointment as voluntary faculty in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in the area of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, where he is closely associated with the pediatric gynecology fellowship program. In addition, he has a close relationship with the medical endocrinology department at Hermann Hospital through University of Texas Health Science Center and has been involved with resident didactics/clinical education at the Methodist and Lyndon B. Johnson Residency Programs. He maintains a close academic connection as a private practitioner and continues to lecture and stay involved in poster presentation with ongoing research and publications. He is also actively involved on a national level as a member in the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists among others. His private clinical practice is one of the few in Houston that encompasses the entire spectrum of disorders of reproductive endocrinology. Please refer to his posted curriculum vitae for detailed information.
