How do you screen your donors?

Donors are screened through a comprehensive medical questionnaire, review of medical records, psychological evaluation, physical examination and laboratory testing. Most donors are selected through other agencies DO NOT undergo this evaluation until AFTER they are selected by a couple due to expense. In general, the donors that have been screened have already donated in the past.

What are the advantages to pre-qualifying donors?

By screening donors in advance, the quality of donor that is selected is much higher, time to treatment can be shortened, and overall success is much higher. Some couples select and evaluate 3-5 donors from the same agency before they find a donor that is qualified. Time to treatment sometimes can be delayed from 3-6 months.

How is Special Creations different from other agencies?

This agency uses extensive experience in third party reproduction and egg donation to provide the donors that recipients are looking for by performing the necessary screening supervised under the direction of a trained reproductive endocrinologist. Many agencies employ medical personnel such as nurses or social workers who rely solely on a physician’s office to determine if donors are qualified AFTER they are selected. Often, these donor candidates are not eligible for donation even after being deemed qualified by prescreening questionnaires. Special Creations follows FDA guidelines for donor selection and ascertains that donors are QUALIFIED from the beginning before the selection by a recipient couple.

What information will we be given regarding a potential donor?

Recipients will be provided with the information gained from past medical and family history, along with results from the medical and psychological screening. Most agencies only provide results of the medical questionnaire without objective assessment that may disqualify a donor.

Will we meet our donor?

The process of egg donation is usually anonymous and recipients usually never meet their egg donor. Some programs do use known donors that are under legal agreement with the recipient couple.

Will the donor know our identity?

With anonymous donation, donors are not aware of the identity of the recipient couples.

Yes, our agency is “special” and will work with couples or individuals that want a successful outcome in a timely fashion.
